The Best Sacramento Schools Near Sutter Park

Every time we decide to build a new community, we make all decisions with the goal of fulfilling the dreams and expectations of our future residents. When we chose the site of our Sutter Park community we knew we wanted to create homes that honored the history and charm of East Sacramento, focusing on giving residents easy access to the best restaurants, shopping, entertainment and more that Sacramento has to offer. Of course, access to exceptional education is equally always top of mind, and we’re excited to highlight some of the incredible Sacramento schools that are located near our Sutter Park community and the surrounding area. 

While schools are participating in social distancing, the exceptional institutions surrounding Sutter Park are providing exceptional remote opportunities to students in our area. 

Pre-K Programs

There are several exceptional programs for the younger Sutter Park residents, ranging from 0-5 years old. For preschool, Creative Spaces Learning Center (only 5 minutes from Sutter Park) draws from various approaches from early education (Montessori, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf) to create a play-based program for kids 2-5 years old. Other highly-rated pre-k programs within 10 minutes of Sutter Park include Stepping Stones School at River Life, Wildrose Montessori School and Discovery Montessori School

Elementary School

Sutter Park is zoned for two Sacramento elementary schools. Within walking distance (less than 1 mile) from Sutter Park is Phoebe Hearst Elementary School, which received a 10/10 rating from greatschools.org. Caleb Greenwood Elementary School received an equally high rating (9/10) and is only a 5-minute drive from Sutter Park. Both of these schools serve students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Either school is an excellent option for your kids! 

Middle School

Sutter Middle School is only 7 minutes from Sutter Park, and serves students in grades seven and eight. This school consistently receives high test scores, giving it a 9/10 Great Schools rating. Their sports programs and long list of clubs give students additional opportunities to get involved. 

High School 

There are two public high schools that are zoned for Sutter Park: Hiram Johnson High School and West Campus High School. West Campus is a public college preparatory magnet high school with more than 40 clubs and organizations for students to get involved in. It’s also recognized as one of the Sacramento area schools that sends the most graduates to college, and the school holds several college readiness events throughout the year to help prep students. 

Private Schools

In addition to the excellent Sacramento schools nearby, there are also great private schools options less than 10 minutes from Sutter Park, such as Merryhill Elementary and Middle School, serving pre-k through eighth grade students. With more than 40,000 sq. ft. of innovative learning space and small class sizes (average class size is 19 students: 1 teacher), Merry Hill combines a rigorous, standards-based curriculum with 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication. 

Another highly rated private school option is Capital Innovations Academy, serving middle and high school-aged students looking for advanced – and college-level – courses as well as tutoring and counseling. Students choose majors including visual arts, theatre & dance, social studies, music and science & tech. 

Tutoring Centers

For students needing help with a range of subjects, less than 10 minutes from Sutter Park is the Huntington Learning Center, offering tutoring for k-12 students as well as test prep courses. Intrepid Tutoring is another excellent place to go for help in all subjects from kindergarten through college, with additional test prep courses as well.  

Higher Education

One of Sacramento’s most prestigious schools is Sacramento State University, located less than 10 minutes from Sutter Park, and known for its business, communications and criminal justice and safety programs. Their nursing program is also ranked 3rd in the state on California’s Registered Nursing’s website. Sacramento City College is another great option for higher education.
